"Drive on, we'll sweep up the blood later" -K. Hepburn
In an old book I came across a saying that struck me like a blow and continues to consume me through my days, and when I give myself to sorry pleasure; when illusion, lies, and play acting rise up to me instead of the real thing...when complaisantly I deceive myself with ready thoughts as though dark things were clear, as though life did not carry a thousand fiercely barred gateways; and when I repeat words whose breadth I have never felt fully and hold on to things whose existance has never roused me...when a welcome dream caresses me in velvet and day and reality elude me, then the saying appears before me; "Man Become Substantial!"
